The miter is not an overly complex tool, but because it is precision equipment, it is not cheap. At the same time, however, there are devices with limited accuracy and functionality in the economic segment. Naturally, a natural question arises as to which features are key and how to evaluate individual parameters to choose a diagonal with the right value for money.
What are the diagrams for?
Miter saws are quite universal tools: depending on how the knife will be fitted, they can be used for cutting wood, metals or plastics, but it is very difficult to find devices that could be called for example aluminum diagonal miter or for aluminum wood – everything is a matter of accessories here. Essentially, these tools are used for machining long elements and allow for very precise determination of cutting parameters.

Miter saw or table saw – which one to choose? Compared to traditional table saws, the miter saws are more versatile and allow for more complex work. However, they are also more expensive than sawing machines, so in the case of people who do not plan to cut at an angle, what are the miter saws, the purchase of such equipment will most often pass the goal. It can be said that the miter saw is a more extensive version of the table saw, therefore it is able to perform the same tasks, but this can not be reversed – the saw will not replace the miter.
What to pay attention to when buying a miter?

The first selection criterion: blades
The workpiece of the diagonal is formed by properly shaped blades. When buying a tool, the first set of blades is given in the price, but even with high-quality products it should be borne in mind that with the progressing wear of the blades they will lose their precision. In addition, there are specific types of blades for processing specific materials.
The new blade must have the same hole diameter as the old one. The width of the disc must also be identical.
The number of teeth, the larger it is, the more it speeds up the cut, but limits its precision.
Specialist blades for aluminum, hard or soft wood or PVC are always a better choice than blades called universal.
The second selection criterion: angles
Each miter saw is suitable for cutting any material at an angle of 45 to 90 °. This means that in the case of single-sided miter saws, the workpiece should be turned several times to implement more complex designs. If most of the cuts you make need to be repeated on two sides, you might want to consider buying a more expensive but more convenient double-sided miter. In such a case, a better table miter will be better, more stable and more precise than a manual miter.
Third selection criterion: feed
Whether in a particular application a miter with a feed or not will be better depends only on the length of the workpieces: for shorter parts, the feed will not be particularly useful, but when cutting eg meter pipes or posts, the feed function will allow you to grip the workpiece more confidently, him stability and thereby increase precision. The feed does not affect the price of the device in a significant way, so it is often profitable to choose a slightly more expensive device, even if it is not necessary at the moment.
The fourth selection criterion: deviation
Not every electrical miter can cut two angles at the same time, because it requires not only to determine the inclination, but also the possibility of rotation on the table. Diagonal saws that have this function are expensive, but they are the only ones that allow you to make even the most complicated elements.

The fifth selection criterion: rotational speed
The aluminum miter must work at a lower speed than the hardwood miter: every material, due to its density and structure, requires a slightly different machining method and you should determine the ideal range in your case before you buy the miter.
The rotational speed is to a certain degree dependent on the assumed blade, but these differences are so insignificant that they can be completely neglected.
If the blade speed is not adjusted to the type of material being processed, the cutting precision may be reduced, but it may also bring about a direct threat to the health of the person operating the miter saw.
Sixth selection criterion: additional equipment
In the case of diagonals, there are not many additional elements that could influence the assessment of the suitability of individual models.
It is worth mentioning three optional elements of equipment:
- lighting facilitating work in an underexposed workshop;
- laser designing the cutting line, useful primarily for machining large items;
- set of holders and clamps for precise assembly of larger elements for the machining time.
It is also worth paying attention to the type of engine used: a diagonal piston with an induction motor (brushless) is more efficient and usually more durable than a miter equipped with a brush motor. However, this does not affect the rotational speed or cutting precision, although induction motors cause a slight increase in the price of the diagonals.
